20 Truly Great Dishes Eaten in London

I have selected twenty truly outstanding dishes that have been eaten in London over the last 18 months. They are rated outstanding or great because in my opinion they are not only beautifully executed by very talented and skilled chefs but they have been prepared with world class ingredients. To this end they are in most cases as good or more often better than the equivalent dish sampled anywhere else in the world.

Many of these dishes are on the surface simple like Zucchini Fritti, Zabalgione or various steaks. Sadly based on my experience in London most of the time ,these dishes are a massive disappointment due to poor sourcing and cooking, or, sometimes both.

If you live in London or are passing through I strongly recommend all the restaurants mentioned not only for the specific dishes but for a fabulous dinning experience.

O'Shea's of Knightsbridge Perthshire Black Angus Rib Eye on the bone at Goodman

Fish and Chips at 101 Pimlico Road

Rissoto with Black Truffles , Rousillion

Linguini alle Vongole l'Anima

Pizza with Chanterelle and Gloucester Old Spot Ham at Franco Manca , Brixton

A great collection with some suppliers and some restaurants clearly delivering the goods again and again...

thanks for the risotto; you should pay us a visit here at Gauthier Soho, the autumn truffle risotto is amazing this year. 1 out of 2 truffles is currently to die for. serious.

Fabricio , Anthony , Chris and Kavey thanks for stopping by and your comments.

Alexis I was in when you first opened and will be back very soon. I agree about the truffles both black and white Daniele Camera over at Alloro has in my opinion the best White Alba and spoilt us recently with Irish Rose Veal Carpaccio covered with The White Gold- then again he is from Piemonte.

A list of great dishes at great restaurants.
O'Shea's seem to be popping up again and again everywhere these days. I hope they do not let the fame go to their heads an d let the quality slide.

Mzungu thanks for passing by.

O'Shea's beef and other meat is only available in a few select restaurants in London - top quality is scarce !

Brilliant piece! I love that you have included the doughnuts at Harwood Arms! I also second Alexis Gauthier's truffle risotto (which I had at Gauthier Soho for the first time last week), and also love the BBR onglet and the Goodman steak. You've given me quite a few to add to my list.

Great post with photos. Must work my way through the list. Plus a blog with a different colour background other than white - I like your work.
